Created in 1998, the Personal Safety Manufacturers' Association [PSMA] unified the two existing associations to bring together all the major manufacturers of Personal Protective Equipment [PPE]. The PSMA is currently extending its membership to include organisations which supply and install PPE which is attached to fixed positions such as Height Access and Air-Line Respiratory equipment.
Historically, manufacturers have played a pivotal role in the creation and revision of standards on PPE and there is little doubt that enquiries on the detailed performance specifications contained within those standards are best directed to those who manufacture these products. They are equally concerned that safety products should be carefully and knowledgeably selected and used by organisations providing protective products to their staff and many member companies are able to provide valuable advice in this respect.
