Work has been going on throughout recent months to build a coalition of bodies within the Occupational Safety and Health sector, in order to be able to provide one voice to communicate, educate, create knowledge, and deliver real impact. Providing a public face, an authoritative influencer and a unified front for the whole H&S industry/sector. The group in addition to BSIF includes BOHS, BSC, CIEH, IIRSM, IOSH, NEBOSH and RoSPA.
Ahead of the final, formal establishment of the group as an “Alliance” the leaders of this group came together to make timely calls to the Government on the Retained EU Law Bill (REUL) currently making its’ way through the parliamentary process. REUL, includes the requirement to review, reform or revoke several thousand pieces of legislation during 2023, many of which affect safety health and the environment in the UK.
The group has called on the Government to scrap the arbitrary deadlines of the EU Retained Law Bill to help the UK retain its position as a beacon of health and safety. Recognising that while change can be a positive thing, the Government needs to ensure there is enough time and a full consultative process to ensure the safety of lives and businesses. The initiative on REUL has been led by RoSPA on behalf of the group, and in addition to direct communication with Grant Shapps, Secretary of State at the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, a press release has been issued which has already achieved great traction in the press as you can see from the links below
